The fact that more than one million tourists visit Costa Rica each year does not happen by chance. Our country, located in Central America, is an isthmus where life seems to have created its roots. Covering only 0.03% of the surface of our planet, Costa Rica has approximately 6% of the world’s biodiversity.

In addition, Costa Rica is characterized by an impressive scenic beauty, consolidated system of protected areas, social and political stability, high educational levels, and efficient infrastructure and services. All these characteristics you can find in a territory of only 51 thousand square kilometers, surrounded by both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, only three to four hours away from each other by land or 45 minutes by air.

The country’s strategic position, in the heart of the western hemisphere, the Government’s positive attitude towards foreign investment, its infrastructure, access to international markets, and labor quality and cost, make Costa Rica an ideal place to establish commercial operations.

“Through my host family and friends from work at the school, I have gotten the impression that Costa Rica is a beautiful country that induces pride in anyone who knows it”

Car Rental: You know there is nothing better than deciding when to go, where to stop, how fast to go and how long to stay in Costa Rican destinations and you can do it if you rent a car.

Please note the following questions:

Question 1) What kind of Car?
Standard or 4×4

Question 2) Where do you plan to go?
Some roads are not paved.

Question 3) How many people are traveling together?
Your party may fit in all type of cars sometimes.

Knowing your answers we can suggest a particular car that fits your needs.

We offer:

Standard 4 doors, manual or automatic
4×4 compact, medium or large manual or automatic
Vans for large groups or families
Private Transfers by van with or without English speaking drivers

Conditions:

21 years old

Valid license

Passport

Credit card ( please note minimum deductible is $ 750 and maximum $ 2.000 USD, your card must have enough for the deductible and for the rent)

This information is useful:

Cars can be delivered and returned anywhere in San Jose metropolitan area or at the airport at no extra cost.

If you want to pick up a car or return it where there is no car rental office extra charges apply according to the distance to San Jose or nearest office available.

Driving in Costa Rica is not difficult, but it is important to always drive defensively.

In Costa Rica, police officers write tickets which can be paid at any national (public-state owned) bank. If you keep the ticket, you can pay at the car rental office. Police officers do not take money and bribing is a major fault in Costa Rica.

Costa Rican roads are not in excellent conditions. There are potholes everywhere, so be careful when driving, especially at night or in the rain.

Highways, roads, streets and avenues are numbered on maps, but locals do no know those numbers. People are guided by landmarks. The most useful thing to do before starting a trip is to memorize the names of the towns between departure and arrival locations.

We recommend a 4×4 over a standard car due to road conditions. Also, there are destinations, such as Monteverde, the active side of Arenal Volcano and some beaches, where a 4×4 is needed and where a small car could be damaged by road or ground characteristics. As a general rule though, standard cars can reach any location in Costa Rica

Stop signs in Costa Rica mean slow down or keep driving for the locals so be careful and watchful at all crossroads.

Parking in the streets is not safe time of the day. The parking lot of your hotel should be safe, but, in any case, do not leave any items inside a parked car.

Gas is available almost anywhere. Credit cars are accepted when paying for gas or services at the gas station. MasterCard and Visa Cards are widely accepted, but American Express and others are not.

The person who signs the contract should be the owner of the credit card supporting the final payment and also the main driver. Second driver, if included in the contract, may be required to pay an extra fee depending on the car rental company, please ask about this possible charge.

One day of rent is equal to 24 hours, but 27 hours is equal to 2 days and soon. Most car rental companies in Costa Rica allow clients to be a maximum of 2 hours late when returning a car. Please ask about this advantage.

Weekly rental is cheaper. The amount is equal to 6 days of rent + mandatory insurance and the 7th day is ¨0¨ rent + mandatory insurance.
